Students who are interested in joining may do so after completing 12 credit hours at USF and must have at least a 2.5 grade point average. It is very important to take time to learn about the history, values, and national programs of each organization to fully appreciate and understand the depth of NPHC chapters. Students should also know that the goals of the NPHC are: To develop programs designed to enhance the education and social life of minority communities in particular and the general collegiate and local communities at large.
Membership selection into NPHC chapters is referred to as the “intake” process. Intake has replaced what was referred to as “pledging” and has three important components: the pre-initiation ceremony, initiation itself, and an in-depth educational program which follows initiation. Each NPHC member organization has its own specific intake process which may vary in time, content, and expense. Alumni(ae) advisors supervise the intake procedures and are present at all activities. Hazing in any form is prohibited and is a violation of NPHC rules, University of South Florida rules and the State of Florida. Severe penalties may be imposed on chapters or individuals found in violation of the NO HAZING policy.
